A favourite from Nigel Slater

December 1:
It's the lights that get me in the end. The candlelight bouncing off the oh-so-carefully polished glasses on the table; the dim, amber glow from the oven that silhouettes the golden skin of the roasting bird; the shimmering string of lanterns I weave through the branches of The Tree. That, and the carols that float from the radio or those I catch as I pass by the open doors of St. Saviour's. The food's good too, of course, especially Boxing Day lunch, the bread sauce, the mince pies and the pudding, but doesn't it all taste so much better when you put a taper to the candles?

Last winter

Budapest, Hungary - January 2007

This was taken from the balcony of our hotel room while on holiday in Budapest. I just love the combination of the snow, the red paint of the fire hydrant and the branches of the tree. It was a wonderful weekend holiday. I just marvel at how vivid the memories are that come streaming back when looking through our travel photographs. Enjoy the journey.

beautiful stillness

beautiful stillness - The Lower Rideau - Eastern Ontario, Canada - 2 November 2007

I simply adore the mornings, the stillness, quiet, and inner peace that so often eludes me, I seem to find more easily in the wee small hours of the morn. With the cooler weather I seem to linger under the blankets, I suppose most of us do, so I don't wake quite so early these days. I am almost certain I will remain a morning person. Wishing each of you a marvelous day, filled with beauty, laughter and contentment. Enjoy the journey.

Falling Snow

Falling snow - Spragge, ON, Canada - end of November 2007

There is such a stillness and quiet that seems to settle over everything when snow falls. It was wonderful to experience a bit of real winter weather while I was home recently. Hard to believe there are only eight more sleeps till Christmas!!!

Holiday Snaps

The present never ages. Each moment is like a snowflake, unique, unspoiled, unrepeatable, and can be appreciated in its surprisingness.

The wee ones

Marcus, Nadine & Matthew - November 2007

Nicholas - November 2007

Thought I would share a couple of photographs of the wee ones I had the honour of finally meeting while on holiday, each of these little mites are such inquisitive, delightful beings! I have to admit it certainly is a challenge capturing decent photographs of wee ones!!! Wishing each of you a wonderful lead up to the holidays, Christmas will be here before we know it!!!

Enjoy the journey.

It has been an interesting journey and we are so looking forward to what the next year has in store! Thanks to each of you for sticking with us, a special note of gratitude goes out to the handful of you who have encouraged us along the way, your love and support are appreciated more than you will ever know.

Enjoy the journey!!!

Back in Austin

Chickadee rearview - Spragge, Ontario, Canada - December 2007

The past couple of weeks have been terrific, spending time with both family and friends. It is always so wonderful to come home though. I missed S. ever so much, that first embrace after weeks apart is always exquisite. More about the holiday later in the week, for now I leave you with a few links to enjoy:
