Leap Year

Thought I would share the following links to a couple of blogs I enjoy visiting, Treats and Treasures and woolgathering. As well as this photograph , which I think is simply wonderful, taken by The Sartorialist (another interesting blog).
I am decreasing for a hat I am knitting but it looks as though I will run out of wool before I finish. Do I attempt to find a wool that would match at the local yarn shop, or finish with a complimentary colour?! This is what happens when I try to use up spare yarn, it certainly keeps things entertaining.
Take a bit of time to notice the little things...

P.S. About that hat I mentioned, I decided to unravel the whole thing and have started a new one, in a smaller size and a different pattern (one I like better). Will let you know how it works out. Hope the weekend is treating you well.

Rediscovered II

Snowfall in the churchyard - Bratislava, Slovakia - January 2007

A rediscovered photo from our time spent in Bratislava. The snow provided a light dusting but quickly melted away, one of those ephemeral gifts Nature so generously provides.

Hope the week holds much promise.

Tree Love & A Note

Tree Love I - Bratislava, Slovakia - January 2007

A letter for Easson:

Can it be that you have already celebrated your first birthday?! Time certainly seems to fly. Scott and I are truly delighted to have finally met you in person during the Christmas holidays. You are quite the enchanting and ever so engaging wee little mite. You obviously have a very beautiful soul. You took to your Uncle Scott straight away, and he could not have been more pleased. Scott was the first to witness your latent climbing ability, unbeknownst to him. He mentioned to your mom that you had climbed the couple of stairs in the living room leading up to the front landing and was quite surprised by your mom's exclamation of surprise. Let's just say you then proceeded to demonstrate this new found ability to everyone present. Which you did without hesitation and with much skill and determination.
You might be interested to know that the day you were born, Scott and I were in Vienna, Austria on a weekend holiday. You see, we spent a little more than three months in Europe, from mid November 2006 through to the end of February 2007. Scott was working in the Dell offices in Bratislava, Slovakia. Since Bratislava was so close to Vienna, only an hour by train, we spent a good number of weekends exploring that jewel of a city. So your birthday will always be closely linked with our many fond memories of Vienna.
A treasure of a memory from Christmas is the sight of you in your Uncle Scott's arms standing before the fireplace. The both of you staring into the mesmerizing flames of the fire. Your back to Scott's chest, comfortably held in his loving grasp, the beautiful glow of firelight reflected on both your faces. It would have made a gorgeous photograph, but I have captured it in my memories for safe keeping.
We love you ever so much our darling girl. Know that we keep you close in our hearts and thoughts, always.

slightly different

Late afternoon light II - Austin, Texas - 13 February 2008

The "Letter Writing Project" (see description below) by this artist sounds quite intriguing.

The "Letter Writing Project" invites us to write the letters we've always meant to, but never taken time for. Lee Mingwei has created three three-sided booths, constructed of wood and translucent glass, each of which contains a desk and writing materials. One booth is designed for standing, another for sitting, and the third for kneeling, traditional positions in which one may meditate. In this project, visitors enter one of three booths to write a letter to a deceased or otherwise absent loved one, offering previously unexpressed gratitude, forgiveness or apology. They may then seal and address their letters (for posting by the museum or gallery), or leave them unsealed in one of many slots on the wall of the booth, where later visitors may read them. Many later visitors come to realize, through reading the letters of others, that they too carry unexpressed feelings that they would feel relieved to write down and perhaps share. In this way a chain of feelings is created, reminding visitors of the larger world of emotions in which we all participate.

Enjoy the little miracles that so often go unnoticed.

more words in books

Selection by James Robertson; p. 90-91; Four letter word: Invented correspondence from the edge of modern romance; edited by Joshua Knelman and Rosalind Porter.

Ah, yes, going home. The journey I make into you, mountains of Scotland, is just that: a homeward journey. I go, I disappear for a while, I come back, having climbed or not climbed this hill or those - and I have both been , and am still to go, home... Ten, maybe twelve times a year - enough, but not nearly enough - I will make this journey, and it is indeed a journey of love in both directions. But no matter how often I make it, no matter the quickening beat of my heart as I set off, no matter all these words I have put down here, I know this journey means nothing to you. To me, on the other hand, driving home in the light of a big yellow moon, beneath the emerging stars that you and your stones are one with, back to her with whom I am one, it means everything.

words in books

Selection found in Deadhouse Gates by Steven Erikson, p. 252:

"Strange how a land untraveled can look so familiar."
Mappo blinked, the memories scattered by the sound of that familiar soft voice. He glanced up at Icarium. "Stranger still how the mind's eye can travel so far and so fast, yet return in an instant."
The Jhag smiled. "With that eye you might explore the entire world."
"With that eye you might escape it."

Spring is near

I saw the first of the Dogwoods in bloom today, it was in a sheltered area near the express way closer to downtown. A wonderful surprise for the day. They were blooming by the first week of March nearby, see the image taken last season here.
Enjoy the tiny miracles!
