Finished knitting these beauties last week (another shot). The yarn was a Christmas gift from Kim & Mead, thanks again! My feet are very happy indeed. Thanks Em, for the title inspiration (see her shot here).
Enjoy the journey!

A quote by Emily Post
The letter we all love to receive is one that carries so much of the writer’s personality that she seems to be sitting beside us, looking at us directly and talking just as she really would, could she have come on a magic carpet, instead of sending her proxy in ink-made characters on mere paper.

Bright spots of colour
I discovered this pair while out for a hike yesterday afternoon. Dad's favourite colour was red, he loved Mom in red especially. It's Dad's birthday today, I miss him more today than most. Dad had a real sweet tooth, so maybe a bit of dessert should be a part of the dinner plans.

Spring is near

Locally grown flowers, Ranunculus bouquet - Austin, Texas - 16 March 2008
So glad you liked the sketches, your kind words mean the world to me! I worry sometimes about the response I will get when I unveil things that are dear to me. I have learned, ever so slowly, that it isn't so much the reception, but the simple act of creating, it brings such joy. This sentiment isn't new, but so very apt. The photo above was taken during an afternoon of overcast skies. I have had to process it quite extensively, something I try not to do too much of with any photos I take. The weather forecast calls for plenty of sunshine today, so I am hoping to have a few naturally lit shots later today. I will share them with you tomorrow!
Happy journeys today!

Reminiscence IV

Twins sisters dressed up for Halloween - Mid to late 70's - Taken by Mom
The photograph above of my sister and I just makes me grin. I love how Karen's ears are flopped back and mine are forwards, and that you can see the flame of the candle inside the jack-o-lantern. We both look so happy. Mom made the rabbit hats to go along with our pyjamas, they must have been such cozy costumes. If you get a chance, be sure to check out this series of paintings, I just love them. Wishing each of you the joy of finding magic in the seemingly mundane.

Thoughts
Hints of Spring III - Austin, Texas - 3 March 2008 The month of March heralds Dad's birthday, as well as Mom & Dad's wedding anniversary. This time of year tends to bring to mind thoughts and memories of Dad more readily, more so this year, with April 12th being five years since Dad's death. Some days it seems as though it were only yesterday, while others, it is as though time has lost all meaning. Funny how our minds can seemingly play tricks on us. At times memories appear to be stored away at random, since there are moments when something out of the blue can bring about an entire cascade of stored thoughts and images from the past. I suppose if I were to consider it more closely, there must be a connection between the trigger and the memory, but it really shouldn't matter where, or why or how. I am simply grateful that I have the capacity to retain so many cherished memories. They are a true gift. Here is to remembering...
