A Beauty

A Rose - Georgetown, Texas - 30 September 2010

We have three rose bushes waiting to be planted. The bed has been tilled and weeded, just need some bone meal, soil amendment and mulch. Hoping to plant these beauties over the weekend. Enjoy the journey.
*Update: The roses have been planted and seem to be adjusting well. Let us hope the deer or other animals don't make short work of them before they can thrive.

Calm and Beauty

At sunset - Gulf Shores, AL - December 2009

Another rediscovered image that brings me a deep sense of calm and strength at this time. Our flood claim has been approved and the insurance cheque delivered to the property loss department of our mortgage company. Work will begin on restoring the walls very soon and they will proceed from there. Moving forward is a very good thing. Enjoy the journey.

Hello

It has been an exhausting week and a half (almost two weeks) and yet there is still much more to do. Things are beginning to look a bit better though. We have had a tremendous amount of help from our amazing neighbours and a wonderful friend. Later in the week, I will share a few images of the first floor, now that part of the dry wall and the rest of the flooring has been removed. We appreciate all the love and support from each of you. Slowly but surely we will get through this.

Moving ahead

Things are coming along. The insurance adjuster will be here Wednesday between 11am and 2pm and will look things over. The restoration company was back this morning (Sunday) and have been working all day removing the bamboo floors, the base boards and two feet of the sheet rock (walls). They have set up more fans and sprayed a disinfectant/anti microbial liquid. So next we wait for things to dry out. Not sure how long before the actual renovations will commence but it may be December before things are some what normal again. We are both okay, just tired. Thanks for all your love and support. ox
P.S. We are living upstairs, one bedroom apartment sort of speak, thankfully we have a full bathroom up here. I have to do a bit of rearranging since things are a bit cramped, but we are coping.

Update

So the restoration people came by today and set up their huge fans and dehumidifiers this evening. Feels good to be moving forward. The bamboo flooring will be removed tomorrow, along with the base boards and maybe more. Thanks for all the support and love!

Flood Damage

Hi,
First we want everyone to know we are both okay. After a major flooding event in our area, just after midnight on 8 September, the first floor of the house and the back yard are a mess. The hardwood and carpets were all saturated with water. Our fences in the back are gone and we have other peoples' stuff in the back yard. We have been in touch with our insurance company and are waiting for our claims officer to arrive, as well as a restoration company to help with the drying out and restoration process. Flooding is awful. It has been an exhausting couple of days, we have ripped out and disposed of all the carpeting and are not sure about the bamboo flooring and we are concerned about mold being an issue. We are overwhelmed but coping. Thanks for keeping us in your thoughts.

It is raining today...

Hope your weekend was most enjoyable. The week has had a wet start, it only rained once last month. Thought I would provide a few links of inspiration, September always makes me want to turn over a new leaf, and there is plenty of inspiration to be had.

dinohorses - a new food blog by Kim, one of our lovely sisters
bookhou - a very talented Canadian based artist duo
otchipotchi - a talented artist and friend based in Portugal
film in the fridge - an inspiring quilter
Lizette Greco - their creations are based on their children's drawings made from thrifted and recycled items
Free printable stickers - especially great for those with wee ones in their lives

What has inspired you lately?!
Enjoy the journey.
