Autumn Colour
It has been a beautiful Autumn, the leaf colour has lasted for quite some time. Only in the past couple of days, with all the rain and wind, have the majority of the leaves fallen from their branches.
Be well and enjoy the journey. ox

Late Summer
My dear sister and her sweetie came to visit earlier this month. We had such a wonderful time catching up. She and I went out early Sunday morning for a hike and the top image was taken from the lookout. We have been very fortunate that the kale, swiss chard and herbs have grown quite well this season and provided us with a bounty of greens. The plants have thrived under Scott's attention this summer. An ongoing knitting project I set myself this year was to use up leftover yarn from previous sock projects. The result has been a growing collection of mismatched socks, so very satisfying. I am certain everyone has a favourite pair of jeans they would wear until absolutely threadbare and full of holes. Inspired by the visible mending movement I finally repaired a hole in the knee and reinforced the surrounding area of a well loved and worn pair of jeans. Take care of each other and enjoy the beauty and wonder that surrounds us. ox

A Quilt, A Tote, Trillium Blooms And Decay In The Woods
Gradation gifts, Trillium blooms and decay found during a walk in the woods.
The embroidery tulip sample on the quilt back was crafted by my husband's paternal grandmother, so wonderful to include and honour her work.
Enjoy the journey. ox

A Morning Hike
Happy Spring!
Went for a morning hike today.
Finally checked out a different trail nearby.
Beautiful view from a lookout about a 1.5 km (25 minute) hike in from the road.
Find more images here.
Hope all is well in your corner of the planet.
Take care and enjoy the journey.

The following is a beautiful poem by Rainer Maria Rilke, a dear friend shared with me recently, thought you might enjoy it as well.
Why, if it’s possible
to spend our little
span of existence
as laurel
slightly darker
than all the other greens
with tiny waves
on each leaf’s rim
(like a wind’s smile)
-why then
still insist
on being human
and shrinking from fate
long for it too?...
Oh not because happiness
- that part of approaching ruin
that rushes ahead of it –
isn't real.
Not out of curiosity
not to exercise the heart
that would have been fine
in the laurel…
But just because to be here
means so much
and because
everything here
all this that’s disappearing
seems to need us
to concern us
in some strange way
we, who disappear
even faster!
It’s one time
for each thing
and only once
Once and no more.
And the same for us:
once.
Then never again.
But this once having been
even though only once
having been on earth
seems as though
it can’t be undone
And so we push ourselves
wanting to master it
wanting to hold it all
in our own two hands
in the overloaded gaze
and the dumbstruck heart.
to spend our little
span of existence
as laurel
slightly darker
than all the other greens
with tiny waves
on each leaf’s rim
(like a wind’s smile)
-why then
still insist
on being human
and shrinking from fate
long for it too?...
Oh not because happiness
- that part of approaching ruin
that rushes ahead of it –
isn't real.
Not out of curiosity
not to exercise the heart
that would have been fine
in the laurel…
But just because to be here

and because
everything here
all this that’s disappearing
seems to need us

It’s one time

Once and no more.
And the same for us:

But this once having been

An Image And A Poem
Through the window
we could see
how far away it was to the gates of April.
Let the fire now
put on its red hat
and sing to us.

What A Difference Two Days And Wind Can Make!
The above images were taken two days apart, there was quite a bit of wind during that time and we had our first bit of snow, which melted almost straight away. Our back yard is a pretty shade of bronze at the moment, it almost seems to glow when the sun peeks through the clouds at random moments. Autumn presents an ever changing visual display, enjoy the moments.

Hello February!!!
Well, January certainly seemed to fly by. There were cold days and nights, along with beautiful sun filled mornings and afternoons. A lovely gift bloomed beautifully mid month, providing a much needed burst of colour. I have been enjoying wonderful blog posts by a dear friend of her travels in warmer climes. Paula of otchipotchi has released several gorgeous new ceramic pieces, well done and congratulations on the new work!
Enjoy the journey.

Hello! Sunrise this morning taken from the upper deck. I love the colour and formation of the clouds. We are fortunate to have so many beautiful trees surrounding us. Enjoy the journey. ox
