Last winter

Budapest, Hungary - January 2007

This was taken from the balcony of our hotel room while on holiday in Budapest. I just love the combination of the snow, the red paint of the fire hydrant and the branches of the tree. It was a wonderful weekend holiday. I just marvel at how vivid the memories are that come streaming back when looking through our travel photographs. Enjoy the journey.

beautiful stillness

beautiful stillness - The Lower Rideau - Eastern Ontario, Canada - 2 November 2007

I simply adore the mornings, the stillness, quiet, and inner peace that so often eludes me, I seem to find more easily in the wee small hours of the morn. With the cooler weather I seem to linger under the blankets, I suppose most of us do, so I don't wake quite so early these days. I am almost certain I will remain a morning person. Wishing each of you a marvelous day, filled with beauty, laughter and contentment. Enjoy the journey.

Falling Snow

Falling snow - Spragge, ON, Canada - end of November 2007

There is such a stillness and quiet that seems to settle over everything when snow falls. It was wonderful to experience a bit of real winter weather while I was home recently. Hard to believe there are only eight more sleeps till Christmas!!!

View of Novy Most - Bratislava, Slovakia - November 2006

Has it really been a whole year since we posted our first entry on this blog?! This time last year we were getting used to calling Bratislava home and adjusting to a new culture. It has been an interesting journey and we are so looking forward to what the next year has in store! Thanks to each of you for sticking with us, a special note of gratitude goes out to the handful of you who have encouraged us along the way, your love and support are appreciated more than you will ever know.

Enjoy the journey!!!

Back in Austin

Chickadee rearview - Spragge, Ontario, Canada - December 2007

The past couple of weeks have been terrific, spending time with both family and friends. It is always so wonderful to come home though. I missed S. ever so much, that first embrace after weeks apart is always exquisite. More about the holiday later in the week, for now I leave you with a few links to enjoy:

Northern Ontario

Parts North III, photograph taken by S.

This time last year, a visit with family in Northern Ontario was drawing to a close. As well as that, Scott and I were preparing to leave for Bratislava, Slovakia (where we would be residing for the next three months) the same week. Amazing how time flies.

Reflection

Morning reflections - The Lower Rideau - Ontario, Canada - 2 November 2007

Today's photo was captured the first morning of our holiday (one week ago), the water's surface was as smooth as glass and there was a calm and quiet that had a unique beauty to it. Geographic distance has ensured that we appreciate the time we spend with our loved ones that much more. S's parents always make us feel so welcome & loved when we stay with them and we couldn't be more grateful. I have been truly blessed marrying into such a terrific family. Although the time we have had to spend together is usually short, a cousin of ours has become a wonderful friend. She took a break from her university studies to visit with us while we were in Canada (thanks so much for making the time to spend with us). A dear friend and her adorable children dropped by to spend Sunday afternoon with us and what a treat it was! Let us hope that another three years doesn't have to go by before the next visit. We also enjoyed a visit with family friends which is always fun. They regaled us with tales of a cruise that never left port, South African homes invaded by baboons and a chance meeting with PGA tour members. It was a wonderful holiday. Hope the weekend is grand!

The shore of The Lower Rideau

The Lower Rideau - Heron Point Farm - Ontario, Canada - 2 November 2007

The holiday was a wonderful respite for both of us. We enjoyed the last of the Autumn weather, sunny blue skies most everyday we were away. A very low key holiday, highlights being the time spent with family and dear friends. We also made a visit to the beautiful Caintown church where we were married, five years ago (and what fantastic years they have been!). More about the visits tomorrow. Please find more photographs from our holiday uploaded to our flickr account (see link on right). Enjoy the journey!
