April And A Sudden Flurry

Both images were taken early this morning during my walk. Temperatures were below freezing, but the sun was out and it helped to make it seem more spring like than winter. The snow that fell yesterday afternoon was quite the sight. We close on the new house next week, so we are both getting super excited. It will be wonderful getting into our own space again.
Enjoy this wonder filled journey, my dear friends.

Happy Spring!

So there is still snow on the ground but when the sun is out the snow is melting and the birds, so much activity and sing song, it is very encouraging. The transition between seasons is always so inspiring. Many are tired of the snow and the cold in this corner of the planet, but I suppose it remains novel, being the first Winter for us in quite a number of years. Spring is slowly beginning to grace us with her presence, it won't do to rush her. Enjoy the moments and this fine journey each of us are on.

P.S. The image below was taken a couple of weeks ago, the light was beautiful late in the afternoon.

A Quilt For Someone Special

Quilt for someone special by Turtle & Dragon
A quilt for ABA - Spring 2013
Happy weekend to each of you! The quilt is now complete. I finished hand stitching the binding on Friday and it has been laundered. Now all I have to do is package it up and get it sent in the post. Here is an image of the back, which gives a nice close up of the quilting done in orange thread. I rented time on a local long arm quilting machine, Glenna, my teacher and friend is always such a tremendous help and so supportive.
Hope all is well wherever you are.
Enjoy the journey.

Goings On

Tiberius by Turtle & Dragon
Tiberius at nine months  - May 2013
This kitten keeps on growing and boy does he have personality! Finished a quilt front yesterday, the finished piece will be a gift for someone special who will be graduating from high school next month. We have had some rain this week so everything is growing like crazy. I have found my next quilt project, can't wait to get started on it. One of my dearest friends celebrated a birthday this week, I am so grateful for the friendship we share, love you J! Happy weekend to each of you and enjoy the journey.

Amaryllis About To Bloom

Amaryllis about to bloom by Turtle & Dragon
Back yard Amaryllis - April 2013
The bulb was forced inside for Christmas two years ago and then planted in the back yard garden. Wasn't sure if it would ever bloom again. Can't wait to see its beauty. My someone special celebrated a birthday this week, so grateful to have him in my life. All the birthday wishes were greatly appreciated.
Hope all is well in your corner of the planet. Remember to reduce, reuse and recycle.
Enjoy the journey.

Sewing Bits

Did a bit of sewing over the past couple of weeks which means I am slowly working through some of my fabric stash. I made a throw for the house, a quick project and super cuddly. Made up seven totes, always useful, using this pattern (minus the lining).  Also put together another infinity scarf using a wonderfully soft fabric.  Finally put together a new duvet cover and am quite pleased with it, I have posted an image on flickr. Also finished up a few quilt blocks, using up some leftover fabric from previous projects and am still trying to decide how they will come together in a quilt front or two (see flickr for images).
Everything is very green after the rain we have had. It has been a great spring for wildflowers and the roses are blooming up a storm.  The vegetables are progressing slowly but surely.  The hummingbirds have made an appearance so the feeders are out and frequently attended by the winged wonders.  Hope all is well wherever you are.  Enjoy the journey.

How Are Things?

A rose bloom - Back yard garden - June 2012

The following is something I thought you might enjoy, a wonderful excerpt from a book I have nearly finished reading, Three Views Of Crystal Water by Katherine Govier. It was sent to me by a dear friend and it has been a most enjoyable read.

Bodies of water, we call them. Fresh, salt, dead, alive, still, fast-moving, tidal, land-locked. I know little about those other bodies which span the world, but I can tell you that the sea I plumb is a trickster. Lashing at the black lava rocks, tasting of the mysterious living things, shot with sunbeams or sunk in massive gloom, it is bitter to the nostrils and stinging to the lips. I've seen rock cliffs under water that trail air bubbles out of some crevice as if they were breathing.

Katherine Govier, Three Views Of Crystal Water, pg 3.

What are you reading these days? Any recommendations?
Enjoy the journey.

Meet The Gang

Felt inch worm toys - Georgetown, Texas - June 2012

Hello there!  Using the Evelyn Inch Worm pattern from a pattern book by Wee Wonderfuls, I hand stitched these felt toys over the course of a couple of weekends.  The bottom image was taken before accessories and facial features were added.  All but one are gifts and were sent out today in the post.  This is the first felt worm I made and this is Emma-Leo, the pattern was also from the same book.
Work begins tomorrow on the bathroom and bedroom upstairs. They were the only rooms in which the walls were not re-textured and painted before we moved in.  We are also having new flooring put down, it will be nice to get this checked off our to do list.  The project should be completed by the end of the month (if not sooner). Hope the weekend was a fun one.  Enjoy the journey.
